A loan payoff calculator for clearer decisions

Clearpath to Debtfree is a free educational tool for individuals who want to see how extra payments could affect a loan’s payoff date, total interest, and total amount paid.

This is a personal, noncommercial project, unaffiliated with any business or employer. It is free to use and does not earn income from advertising, selling personal information, or collecting data. Cloudflare analytics is used to understand site traffic; see our Privacy Policy for details.

Compare a regular monthly payment plan with a plan that includes extra payments. View a projected balance chart and a payment schedule showing the interest, principal, and balance after each payment. Export a schedule or save a one-page PDF summary to discuss with your loan officer.

How to use the calculator

  1. Enter your remaining principal balance, interest rate, and remaining loan term.
  2. Set the balance date and next payment date. The calculator estimates the monthly payment automatically.
  3. Choose an extra payment amount, frequency, and start date.
  4. Select “Calculate my savings” to compare the two payment plans.

How interest is calculated

Loan interest accrues daily on outstanding principal at the entered annual interest rate divided by 365, using actual elapsed calendar days. Payments cover accrued interest first and then principal. Reducing principal earlier can reduce future interest under this model.

Compare with credit-card payments

The credit-card comparison calculator carries over your loan plan and uses the same starting balance. Enter a card APR and minimum-payment formula to compare projected payoff time and interest. Its model compounds card interest daily; actual card agreements may use different rules.

Estimates, not guarantees

These calculators do not include fees, penalties, new borrowing, or rate changes. They assume payments occur on the dates shown. Actual lender terms and payment handling may differ. Results are educational estimates, not financial advice or an official payoff quote.
